Sam Allardyce has laughed off press reports claiming Obafemi Martins will be sold to raise transfer funds at Newcastle.

"This story is complete and utter fabrication."

The Nigerian striker was rumoured to be on his way out of St James' Park to allow Allardyce to strengthen in other areas.

However, the Magpies boss has moved to vehemently deny any truth in the story, although his search for reinforcements continues.

"This story is complete and utter fabrication. There's nothing in it whatsoever," Allardyce told the club's official website.

Martins scored 17 goals in his first season with Newcastle following his arrival from Internazionale for £10million last summer.

N'Zogbia interest

Meanwhile, Fulham are believed to have opened talks with Newcastle over midfielder Charles N'Zogbia.

Allardyce is looking to land Papa Bouba Diop as part of any deal but it is yet to be seen whether Lawrie Sanchez will be open to a swap.
