The midfielder could be allowed to leave Newcastle United for 'family reasons', following talks with manager Sam Allardyce.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a bid for the England international, who has spent eight years at St James' Park.
Speaking after his side's friendly defeat at Milton Keynes Dons on Wednesday night, Curbishley acknowledged he is aware of Dyer's current situation.
But the Hammers boss did not commit to making a bid for the 28-year-old as he continues his quest to add to his squad before the start of the season.
"I'm looking in all areas and it's not very often that a club says that a player is available," commented Curbishley.
"You normally phone up and get told that people are not available, so it's very difficult, but anything can still happen.
"The situation is that Kieron wants to leave the club, as I understand it, but I don't know anything else.
"We get linked with a lot of players at the minute and he's one of them."
