Obafemi Martins returned to training with Newcastle on Monday and manager Glenn Roeder is confident the Nigerian striker will be fit to play at the weekend.
The striker arrived at St James' Park during the summer transfer window, but his debut ended in disappointment as he was stretchered off during the defeat at Aston Villa.
The Magpies initially feared the worst, but scans showed just bruising to his leg and he is now on the road to recovery.
Martins missed Nigeria's African Cup of Nations qualifier with Niger on Saturday and the move seems set to bear fruit, as Roeder expects him to be in contention for the visit of Fulham to Tyneside.
"Obafemi came back into training on Monday and he was able to take part in a full training session," Roeder told The Journal.
"We're expecting him to be fit to play against Fulham on Saturday."
