Newcastle United have handed a trial to Cambridge United defender Michael Morrison.
The 18-year-old centre back has spent the last few days on trial with the Premiership giants, having broken into Rob Newman's first team last season.
Morrison still has two years left on his contract with the Nationwide Conference club, having trained with Everton and Championship side Preston North End last season.
Newman is unsure if the Tyneside club will pursue their interest in the teenage talent.
"I will know after that if they want to take it further, and if not he's been asked to go to another Premiership club next week for them to look at him," Newman told Cambridge's official website.
One defender that is set to return to The Abbey Stadium is Tommy Jaszczun.
The former Aston Villa, Blackpool and Northampton Town player spent the latter half of last season on loan with The U's and is set for a permanent switch to Cambridge after mutually terminating his deal at League Two club Rochdale.
