Newcastle United caretaker boss Glenn Roeder has backed Shola Ameobi to continue the fine form he is currently showing.
The 24-year-old striker has bagged five goals in his last 11 games including the winner against local rivals Middlesbrough on Sunday and Roeder is delighted with his recent progress.
"I've started Shola in every game and he knows he will be judged at the end of the season on the amount of goals he scores," Roeder said.
"All strikers miss chances but you must keep on going back in.
"I played with one of the great strikers in Clive Allen in my early days and he never worried about missing a chance, he just jogged away."
Ameobi is hopeful that his he continue his good form.
"Goals breed confidence for any striker, and I've got a few in the last few games," he said.
"Hopefully I can keep on scoring between now and the end of the season."
