Reports are suggesting Shola Ameobi could miss the rest of the season with a hip injury.Reports are suggesting that Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi could miss the rest of the season with a hip injury.
It has been claimed that Ameobi is facing a shoulder operation, which could see the young hit-man add his presence to an already congested treatment room at St James' Park.
With Michael Owen having endured an injury plagued time in the North East since arriving from Real Madrid and Alan Shearer set to retire in the summer, Graeme Souness can ill-afford to have any other strikers out of action.
Newcastle have yet to make comment on Ameobi's situation but the player did have keyhole surgery in the summer to attempt to cure what has been a long-standing problem.
Souness has had to contend with a wealth of injuries during his time at the helm, with Owen, Scott Parker, Steven Taylor, Shearer, Stephen Carr, Titus Bramble and Albert Luque all having had operations at some stage since June.
