Alan Curbishley has again played down rumours linking Danny Murphy with a move.Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has again played down rumours that Danny Murphy is on his way out of the club.
Speculation over the former Liverpool star's future intensified over the weekend after he missed the FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Reports suggested Murphy was omitted so that he would not be cup-tied for a potential suitor, but Curbishley insists he has not fallen out with the player and is keen to keep him at The Valley.
"There's no truth in that at all - all these rumours are a long way off the mark," said Curbishley.
"People are putting two and two together to make five.
"I talked to Danny last Saturday when this first came up and he was as baffled as I was by the suggestions. It keeps coming back but I can assure you there's been no fall-out.
"He was left out against Sheffield Wednesday because we knew about their size and how they play at set-pieces. I wanted to put my biggest side out.
"Dennis Rommedahl was my luxury, but the rest of the midfield were all workers."
Curbishley did give his strongest indication yet that he could move to bring Lee Bowyer back to the club.
Bowyer is looking to leave Newcastle and return to London after failing to settle on Tyneside.
Newcastle are thought to be willing to let him leave and Curbishley is now weighing up a move for the midfielder.
"He's obviously looking for a move back to London and he's being linked with us. It's a wait and see with that one."
