Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has been handed a boost with the news that Nolberto Solano could be available for the weekend clash with Sunderland.

With Newcastle struggling for consistency, Sunday's game is taking on a greater significance and the return of the talented Peruvian would be a relief for an under pressure Souness.

Solano has yet to make an appearance since returning to Newcastle from Aston Villa, as a thigh strain has kept him on the sidelines.

''We should have Nobby Solano back as he's in training all this week,'' said Souness. ''He'll be in the squad and that's very encouraging.

''We have missed Kieron Dyer, Emre and Nobby Solano and we have not been able to create much.

''They are door openers - that's how I see it.''

Souness could be further enthused with the return of fellow new boy Craig Moore, who like Solano has yet to make his Newcastle bow.

The big Australian has not played for the club's first team since arriving in the summer because of a hamstring complaint but will line-up for Newcastle's second string on Tuesday evening.
