Charlton have completed the signing of Newcastle midfielder Darren Ambrose on a four-year deal.

The 21-year-old came through his medical without any problems and joins The Addicks for an undisclosed fee.

Ambrose becomes Charlton's third capture of the summer following Kelly Youga and former Ipswich team-mate Darren Bent into the South London club.

Indeed, he will link up with another Ipswich old boy, Matt Holland, at The Valley.

Ambrose joined Newcastle from Ipswich in March 2003 in a £1 million deal and made a total of 56 appearances for The Magpies, scoring six goals.

An England Under-21 international with five caps to his name, he will be hoping the move to Charlton provides him with the platform for regular first-team football.
