The agent of Newcastle youngster Darren Ambrose has urged Charlton to make a bid for the England under 21 starlet.

Ambrose, who recently helped his country to third-place at the Toulon Under-20s tournament, had become increasingly dismayed at a lack of first-team action under manager Graeme Souness at St James' Park.

Although Ambrose forced his way into the team at the back end of the season the 21-year-old is still keen on a move south, and hopes Charlton follow up their interest with a firm offer.

"Darren's not heard anything from Charlton yet, but they are a club that would certainly interest him," David Giess told the Sunday Sun.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley is known to be after five new players, and former Ipswich midfielder Ambrose could fit the bill.
