Barnsley have extended the loan of striker Michael Chopra until the end of the season from Premiership side Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old has already spent three months on loan with the League One side and The Tykes have been successful in keeping the England youth international for the remainder of their campaign.

Chopra has been in good form for the Oakwell club, with the hit-man scoring five times in his 18 appearance during his 12-week spell with Paul Hart's side.

The news will come as a much-needed boost to the South Yorkshire side, with Barnsley currently hovering above the relegation zone in League One.

The Tykes will also be taking a closer look at trialist winger Byron Bubb in Wednesday's reserve match.

The Grenada international, who started his career with Millwall, had a recent trial with Premiership side Charlton Athletic.

Bubb had been playing on non-contract terms with Dover Athletic and will hope to impress Hart during his trial spell.
