Caig signs Newcastle deal

Newcastle's third choice goalkeeper Tony Caig has signed a new contract that keeps him at St James' Park for another year.

Caig joined the Premiership outfit from SPL side Hibernian in 2002 and whilst failing to break into Sir Bobby Robson's first-team setup, he has provided cover on European trips for Shay Given and Steve Harper.

The Whitehaven-born custodian began his career at Carlisle and spent seven years in Cumbria before moving to Blackpool in 1999.

A brief stint at Charlton followed before Caig moved again to enjoy an impressive spell with Hibernian.

The 29-year-old will be hoping to do enough this season to earn another contract with the North East outfit.
