SECOND DIVISION rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon Town are fighting to sign Newcastle United teenager Calvin Zola Makongo.

The Congo-born marksman is highly-rated by The Magpies, who are willing to loan him out for the season.

Zola Makongo impressed onlookers with his display for the Magpies' reserves in midweek as he scored a brace against Everton.

Owls boss Chris Turner and Swindon manager Andy King (pictured) were both in the stands to witness Zola Makongo's performance and are ready to battle it out for his signature.

The 18-year-old's contract with Newcastle expires next summer but a season garnering first-team experience could lead to a longer deal at St James' Park.
