CHILE have confirmed the inclusion of star striker Marcelo Salas in their squad for their friendly with Peru.

Salas will play for his national side on 30 March and it will be the first time in nearly two years he has played - mainly because of injury.

The Juventus star backed the inclusion of his nation's star players when coach Juvenal Olmos arranged the friendly and now Salas is delighted to be included.

"I am very happy at being called up for the national side, I am very anxious to back to Chile and play for my country," he said.

"I have not played for my country since 2001 and I feel that too much time has gone by.

"I was missing the beautiful sensation you get when you play for your country.

"I hope that this new process with coach Olmos is a positive one, we have to start with a win against Peru - so our supporters can trust us again.

"I hope the national stadium will be full.

"When I saw the squad for this game, I saw that we are a very young group but there are players there with international experience - we can give Chile back the hope of playing in the World Cup."

Newcastle United's Clarence Acuna was named in the 23 man party, along with fellow European based stars David Pizarro, Pablo Contreras, Rodrigo Tello and Jorge Vargas.
