Newcastle had been alerted to the Italian Under-19 international after some impressive performances for Pro Vercelli in Serie C.
It is understood that the former Lazio trainee spent a short time on Tyneside recently so that Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson could have a closer look at him, but after picking up a knock, the trial had to be cut short.
The youngster's progress will still be monitored by The Magpies as the injury is not serious.
Meanwhile, Newcastle were among a number of clubs who sent observers to watch Chievo's home clash with Juventus on Sunday.
Chievo defender Nicola Legrottaglie is believed to be the subject of Newcastle's interest in the match as Robson continues his search to bring in a new defender before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
