VAHID HALILHODZIC looks to be on the brink of leaving Lille for Olympiakos in the summer, and the Bosnian boss has made Sylvain Distin one of his priority targets.

The highly-regarded coach is believed to be ready to accept a four-year contract with the Greek club.

The riches on offer from Olympiakos, coupled with an increasingly frosty relationship with some of his players, should convince Halilhodzic to quit Lille, despite performing wonders with the French side.

A final decision is expected to be given on his future on April 24.

New Lille chairman Michael Seydoux has already drawn up a short-list of potential replacements for Halilhodzic, believed to include former Rennes coach Paul Le Guen and Philippe Bergeroo.

Interestingly, Halilhodzic would like to take Distin with him to Greece.

The defender has impressed with Newcastle after leaving Paris Saint Germain on a temporary basis, and it is understood that The Magpies are close to tying up a permanent switch within the next fortnight.

However, the interest from Halilhodzic is sure to complicate matters, and could tempt the 24-year-old to reassess his options.

Distin recently admitted he is enjoying life on Tyneside, but did appear to be playing his cards close to his chest.

Meanwhile, fellow Newcastle defender Aaron Hughes has been named as Northern Ireland's captain for the international encounter with Spain on Wednesday night.
