NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly set to renew their interest in Sparta Rotterdam defender David Mendes da Silva as Bobby Robson looks to strengthen his side for next season.
The 19-year-old defender has been one of the few rays of light for Sparta this season, showing maturity beyond his years in a struggling side.
Sparta are set for the relegation play-offs having amassed just 23 points from 31 games and have made it clear that players will be offloaded and Robson is ready to swoop for the young Dutchman, having failed to sign him last summer.
Magpies scouts were said to be at Sparta's match with Ajax which ended 4-0 to the Amsterdam giants.
Moroccan midfielder Nourdin Boukhari, 21, is also poised to leave the Rotterdam outfit with neighbours Feyenoord just one of the clubs in the hunt for the player's signature.
