The Italian club had two representatives at Anfield last Saturday as United crashed to a late winner from Jamie Redknapp.
Liverpool were under the impression that they were there to scout their promising midfielder, Steven Gerrard and slapped a £50 million price tag on him.
However United are certain that it is Domi, who can play at left-back or left-midfield, who is being watched.
In the local Evening Chronicle a source at the club is quoted as saying: "This is the fourth time Inter Milan have watched us recently.
"At first we thought they were coming to watch Kieron Dyer but our information is that they are watching Didier Domi."
Domi has made an impact on Tyneside but has been in and out of the side because of injuries and has had to make do with a place on the bench in recent weeks.
The Frenchman has been quoted as saying he wants to play in Serie A some day and with Robson looking to increase his transfer kitty, Domi could go at the right price.
Indeed perhaps St James` Park should have a revolving door fitted with the amount of deals mooted to occur in the summer.
Toon boss Bobby Robson could find a ready-made replacement in Oxford United`s young left-back Paul Powell. With The U`s one of the favourites for the drop into Division Three they may cash in on their hottest prospect in the summer.
United watched Powell three times last week when Oxford were beaten 2-0 by Cambridge on Saturday.
Denis Smith, the Oxford boss has put a £2 million price tag on the England U-21 international although the Second Division side are so desperate for cash that they will take half of that amount.
Smith is also interested in United`s young striker, Jamie Coppinger who is currently on loan at Hartlepool for the rest of the season, but it is unlikely Robson will sell him.
