FERGIE IS TURKISH DELIGHT

NEWCASTLE UNITED may have to stave off a shock Turkish bid for talismanic striker Duncan Ferguson after Fenerbahce`s director of football, Soydan proclaimed his interest in the Scot.

Soydan said: "Our top target is Duncan Ferguson and I will do everything in my power to get him here. I have watched him three times and have been very impressed.

"I have also bought a book about him and I want to learn as much about him as possible."

However, the Turkish side`s interest may have come a couple of month`s too late as Ferguson has developed an amazing partnership with Alan Shearer which has seen The Magpies storm up the table.

Ferguson had been regarded as a £7 million flop as a succession of injuries kept the giant striker out of the line-up, but once fully fit he has proved his worth.

A figure of £15 million had been touted, in the Turkish media, as to how much Fenerbahce would be prepared to pay, although whether or not they could afford this is uncertain.

Fenerbache is one of the big three in Turkish football, along with Besiktas and Galatasaray, and claim to have 25 million supporters nationwide.

Meanwhile, Stephen Glass has been talking to the Daily Record in Scotland about his plans for the future.

Glass is on the transfer list and has been linked with numerous clubs for a loan deal although Toon boss Bobby Robson is unwilling to let him go unless on a permanent deal.

Glass said: "It`s hard to accept not being part of the team. It has been wonderful to play at St James` Park I`ve got to move on.

"I believe I still have much to play for - just not here."

It is likely to be a busy time come transfer deadline day at Newcastle as Hearts are interested in taking Jamie Coppinger to Tynecastle.
