Premier League: Vital for Aston Villa to keep Ron Vlaar, says Andreas Weimann

Andreas Weimann believes Ron Vlaar has become an even better player since the World Cup and would be delighted if he stays at Aston Vila.

Dutch defender Vlaar has been linked with a move away from the club this summer after catching the eye with his performances at international level in Brazil.

He has carried that good form into the start of the new Premier League season and team-mate Weimann feels it is vital for Villa to keep hold of him.

“Ron is our captain and very important to the club. Everyone will be happy if he is still here after Monday,” said Weimann.

“I watched all the Dutch games at the World Cup and he was brilliant, - and in the first few games this season with us he has shown exactly the same form.

“Ron was always our leader and captain. He’s always been vocal and the player we look up to in the changing room.

“In terms of the performances he is now putting in here, there are definitely signs that he has grown in confidence even more since Brazil.”
