Darren Bent: Fresh injury concerns over Aston Villa striker
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert fears Darren Bent could be facing another lengthy lay-off with an ankle injury.
The England striker was sidelined for the final three months of last season with the problem and he hurt the same ankle during training on Friday, ruling him out of Saturday's 1-0 win at his former club Sunderland.
Lambert was forced to replace Villa's £18m record signing with Christian Benteke for the 1-0 win at his former club Sunderland on Saturday.
Lambert said: "Darren hurt his ankle on Friday in training. It is the same ankle he hurt against Wigan (in February). I know it was serious then.
"Is it serious? I don't know yet. He will get treatment on it during the week and we will see.
"He was really hobbling on Friday and we couldn't take a chance on him with Sunderland."
Bent suffered last season's ankle problem against Wigan in late February and it ended his hopes of being part of England's Euro 2012 squad.
Meanwhile, Villa left-back Eric Lichaj has been ruled out of Saturday's home game against Manchester United after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign at the Stadium Of Light.
Lichaj's absence could prove crucial as first choice left-back, Joe Bennett, aggravated a knee problem against the Black Cats.
