Aston Villa manager has revealed his hopes that his players will stay calm during their Midlands derby against West Brom on Sunday.
The Villans had Chris Herd sent off in the same fixture last season in a game that the club lost 2-1, and were leading at the point Herd received his marching orders.
Lambert understands that the games against local rivals are heated and have added importance, but believes that keeping cool heads is the key to success.
"In a derby, you will do things you never thought were humanly possible to do that in 90 minutes," Lambert said.
"You will go in for a challenge and think 'why did you go for it' when you've got no right to go for it.
"The atmosphere and adrenalin gets you there.
"The big thing for me is that everyone plays with their head."
Villa have won just one of their five Premier League games this season, a 2-0 victory over Swansea in their last home fixture.
