Villa boss happy with start to life at new club

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has suggested the club still have business to do in the transfer market this summer as they prepare for the new season. Villa have already made three captures ahead of the new campaign with the signings of right-back Matthew Lowton from Sheffield United, Feyenoord midfielder Karim El Ahmadi and forward Brett Holman from AZ Alkmaar. But new boss Lambert, who recently succeeded Alex McLeish at the helm following a disappointing Premier League season, has hinted there could be more additions to come.

Important

He told Sky Sports News HD: "I'll try to get lads in to give the group a hand. I think that's important. "I think everyone knows that - that we'll try and bring in lads. "The lads that have come in have fitted in very well, at this minute in time. To be fair, the ones that were already here have been great, let alone anything else. "We just have to get them to work together and if they do that, they'll be fine." Lambert is aiming for a successful season with the Midlands club but refuses to set any targets in terms of where they want to finish in the table. Asked if he had a position in mind the manager replied: "I've not. Because if I do that I'm pretty sure if we don't reach it, or we surpass it, then the expectancy level just goes through the roof every time. "I won't put any pressure on the team that's already there. They know they're under pressure to perform." Lambert has been impressed by his new squad following their return to pre-season training.
Hard work
"It's going quite well at the minute," he said. "The lads are giving everything they've got, which I think is really important. "They seem to have a spring in their step, which is great, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. "They've worked really hard. For every footballer that comes back, especially under a new manager, there's always that little bit of trepidation but so far it's been very good."
