Striker hoping for an improvement next season

Striker Darren Bent believes Aston Villa have to be adventurous with their next managerial appointment in order to help the club move forward. Alex McLeish was sacked last week after just one season in charge and Bent acknowledges the decision over a successor is significant as Villa look to make a third appointment in two years. Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already held talks with Villa, while the likes of Roberto Di Matteo, Paul Lambert and Roberto Martinez have also been linked with the job. Bent feels there can be an exciting future for Villa and is confident that next season will be an improvement once the new boss is named.

Stability

"There's lots of clubs where the manager's been in charge for a while and you watch the club grow," said Bent in the Birmingham Mail. "Villa under Martin O'Neill, back in the day, finished sixth three years in a row and were on the up before whatever happened, happened. "A new manager will bring stability to Aston Villa so that the club can move forward and grow. "It's exciting. We have no idea who it will be but whoever it is I am sure they'll come in, do a good job, take that passion for Villa and take us where we belong. "There are good players and with one or two additions that the manager will have in mind I'm sure we will have a better season than the last."
