Midlanders interested in Spurs midfielder

Sky Sports sources understand Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas. Villa were thought to be lining up a transfer deadline day swoop for Liverpool's Joe Cole but missed out to French side Lille, who captured the midfielder on a season-long loan deal on Wednesday. It appears Alex McLeish's side have now turned their attention to 28-year-old Jenas, who has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane. The England international is yet to feature for Spurs this season and is even less likely to see regular first-team action now that Scott Parker has completed his move to North London from West Ham. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has already stated he is keen to offload some of his players to make room for new signings. Villa are no doubt hoping Jenas, who could join on a loan deal, will emulate the success of Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker after he impressed while on loan at Villa Park last season. If a deal materialised Jenas would mark McLeish's third signing of the summer following the captures of winger Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan and goalkeeper Shay Given from Manchester City.
