Robert Pires wants to extend his stay at Aston Villa for another season in order to help the club's younger players to develop.
The former Arsenal star was signed on a short-term deal by manager Gerard Houllier at the end of 2010 on the basis of his vast experience.
Pires made an unconvincing start to life back in the Premier League and there were suggestions that he had disrupted the dressing room spirit at Villa Park.
But the 37-year-old produced a superb performance in the weekend win over Blackburn and now he wants to sign a new deal.
"I would like to stay for another season," said Frenchman Pires in the Daily Express. "I really love Aston Villa, I love the players because it is a very good team.
"For me, every morning I need to practice my football. I hope to play games and I hope to play next season. Why not?
"I am old and I have experience, I can help these players."
