Villa close in on loan deal for midfielder

Gerard Houllier has expressed his excitement about what Michael Bradley could bring to Aston Villa as the midfielder prepares to complete his move from Borussia Monchengladbach. Villa confirmed over the weekend that they were in advanced talks with the USA international over a loan agreement until the end of the season. Houllier does not anticipate any problems in clinching a deal before Monday night's transfer deadline and is looking forward to working with Bradley. The 23-year-old has defensive and attacking qualities, while Houllier also believes his best is yet to come. "Bradley will be signing, hopefully," said the French tactician, who has been busy strengthening his squad this winter. "We've got to prepare for the future and Michael is 23 and a very hard working midfielder who can score goals."

Ireland and Warnock

One player set to leave Villa is Stephen Ireland, with skysports.com revealing that he has agreed to join Newcastle on loan. Houllier expects the midfielder's departure to be confirmed before the cut-off point, saying: "I think it's (Ireland's move) on the way." Out-of-favour left-back Stephen Warnock has been linked with a possible loan move to former club Liverpool or Wigan. However, Houllier is not so sure he will be on the move after admitting there had been no fresh developments. He said: "So far nothing has happened."
