Krulak admits supporters' anger is justified

Aston Villa fans were right to call for the head of manager Gerard Houllier, according to influential club director General Charles Krulak. Houllier enraged the Midlands club's supporters with comments in the wake of Monday's 3-0 humbling at his former club Liverpool. And while the Frenchman has attempted to clarify those remarks, there has been a noted lack of an apology. Krulak, who is club owner Randy Lerner's right-hand man, was left baffled by Houllier's response, with the ex-Anfield manager coming under increasing pressure despite only being in the fledgling stages of his Villa Park career. "What I don't know is what was going through his mind at the time - and neither does anyone else," he admitted.

Excuses

"Nor am I able to truly understand what he was feeling before, during and after the game, feelings that led him to make the comments he did. I am not going to try to minimise what he said, make excuses. "There is no denying what he said, it is there for all to see." Villa have slipped down the table in recent weeks and are now just two points outside the drop zone ahead of Saturday's home meeting with local rivals West Brom. And Krulak confirmed he has held discussions with the manager and Lerner to ensure the message of the fans' anger is being heard loud and clear. He said: "Those who are looking for his head have the right to feel that want. They buy the tickets and can say what they want. "I can assure you that I have passed on your thoughts to Randy, the board and to our manager."
