Midfielder a doubt for season opener
Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell is a doubt for the start of the Premier League season after sustaining a calf injury.
Sidwell only moved to Villa this summer after leaving Chelsea and he was expected to be a member of manager Martin O'Neill's starting XI when they kick-off against Manchester City on 17th August.
However, the 25-year-old injured his leg in training and is now in a race against time for the curtain-raiser at Villa Park in two weeks' time.
"He picked up a calf strain yesterday and he's very disappointed," O'Neill told Villa's official website.
"It might be a couple of weeks so he might actually struggle for the start of the season. So we'll see. That's a blow to us."
