Aston Villa new-boy Steve Sidwell insists he is not a direct replacement for Gareth Barry.
Boss Martin O'Neill's £5.5million capture from Chelsea signalled more transfer speculation over the future of England international Barry - who is being linked with Liverpool and Arsenal.
But the newly-recruited midfielder is not only eager to show that Chelsea made a mistake by not playing him enough since his 2007 transfer from Reading, but also that he is at Villa Park to bolster the squad and not be compared to anyone.
"I think the first contact was made before the whole Gareth Barry thing came about, so I don't think it's right to say I'm his replacement," the 25-year-old said in the Daily Star.
"I'd like to be judged on what I do at Aston Villa - I'm not here to replace anyone.
"Every player is an individual and I will bring qualities to the side that hopefully only I can do."
