Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies has had surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon.
The 22-year-old, who is technically still on loan from West Bromwich Albion, suffered the injury during the weekend's Premier League clash at Arsenal.
He will now be sidelined for several months and it seems unlikely he will be fit in time for next season.
"The operation went ahead on Saturday evening and the surgeon said it went very well," Davies told the club's website.
"Obviously there's a little bit of soreness there now and I'll just have to rest it up and let everything settle down."
Despite his injury Villa will still complete the permanent capture of the defender, who was called into Fabio Capello's first England squad.
Zat Knight is now ready to stand-in and replace Davies for the remaining two-and-a-half months of the season.
