Aston Villa are ready to open talks with Wilfred Bouma over a new deal at Villa Park.
Bouma has impressed so far this season and has established himself as a regular under Martin O'Neill.
The former PSV Eindhoven star's current contract expires at the end of next season and Villa are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
Bouma agent's Ger Lagendijk confirmed talks over a two-year extension were due to take place in the near future.
"The club wants to reward his development with a contract renewal," said Lagendijk. "Negotiations will begin later this month or in October."
