Aston Villa are in talks with Curtis Davies over a proposed move to Villa Park from West Brom.
The Baggies have given permission for the Premier League club to speak to the want-away defender, who has been left out of the West Brom side at the start of the season.
Reports suggest Davies will join Villa for £9million, although West Brom boss Tony Mowbray insists the deal is not yet done.
Tottenham have also been interested in the 22-year-old but Villa look likely to land the former Luton stopper before Friday's transfer deadline.
"We've given Curtis permission to speak to Aston Villa but the deal is not concluded and is ongoing," Mowbray told the club's official website.
"We'll wait and see if anything gets concluded.
"The bottom line is Curtis hasn't contributed at all for us this season and, if he goes, we'll just get on with what we've been doing."
West Brom have already brought in over £10million from the sales of Diomansy Kamara and Nathan Ellington and Davies could be next out of The Hawthorns' exit door.
