Hamburg midfielder David Jarolim says Czech Republic team-mate Milan Baros 'wants to leave Aston Villa'.

The Midlands club confirmed on Wednesday that they have fielded an enquiry from Hamburg for the former Banik Ostrava and Liverpool hit-man, though Villa chairman Doug Ellis insists Baros is happy to remain at the club.

The German Bundesliga club are in the hunt for a striker after the departures of Sergei Barbarez and Naohiro Takahara this close season.

The 24-year-old struggled to set Villa alight last season following his £6.5 million from The Reds last summer and Jarolim has admitted discussing the possibility of a Hamburg move with Baros.

"Milan has asked me about the club and the city," Jarolim told German daily Bild.

"He really wants to leave Aston Villa."
