Aston Villa's new signing Wilfred Bouma has revealed manager David O'Leary was influential in signing him from Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.
The Holland international is excited about playing in The Premiership and he feels it will strengthen his prospects of playing in next year's World Cup.
Once Bouma spoke with Villa boss O'Leary, the 27-year-old had no hesitation in signing as the former Leeds manager has great faith in his abilities.
"I am really delighted to be joining Villa. It is a big club and I am really looking forward to playing for them in the Premier League," explained Bouma to Villa's official website.
"I know Aston Villa want to be challenging at the top of the table and I want to help. I want to do my best to improve the club.
"The manager David O'Leary was a massive reason for my signing for Villa. I had a great talk with him and he made it clear that he believes in me and my ability.
"That gives me confidence and that's important for me. I had a good feeling about Villa - with their history of being a big club. That's why I chose Aston Villa.
"Villa Park is also a really great stadium and I look forward to my first game for the club.
"It is a World Cup year and I need to be playing against the very best to make sure that I am in top form to make the squad for the finals."
