Unsettled Aston Villa ace Mathieu Berson has pleaded with the club to let him leave.

Berson is unhappy with his lack of first team action at Villa Park and wants a move so that he can get regular first team action.

The Frenchman has endured a frustrating time since his switch from Nantes last summer making just 13 appearances last term.

Berson has been linked with a move to Espanyol and although the player's agent Olivier Jouanneaux recently claimed he would be staying at Villa, the midfielder is hoping to find himself a new club.

"I hope to find something new, because I don't think I will get any opportunities in the coming weeks," Berson told French magazine But.

"But I am still under contract so it is more complex.

"I have no concrete contact yet. In my interest and in Aston Villa's, it is better for me to leave.

"The club is not against a departure, they can understand I need to play. But they don't want to hear about a loan so far.

"As the club doesn't count on me, I can't see me staying.

"It is clear, I want to leave Aston Villa and bounce back in a club that will trust me.

"Here the officials and the coach believed my style didn't match the team's one."
