Aston Villa midfielder Mathieu Berson feels he has enjoyed a positive learning curve this season.

The former France Under-21 international moved to Villa Park last August from Nantes but has taken time to adapt in The Premiership.

Berson has made just 11 appearances for Villa, with six of those coming from the start for David O'Leary's side.

The 25-year-old readily acknowledges that he has required time to adjust to the demands of English football.

But rather than look upon it as a frustrating period in his career, Berson prefers to dwell on the positive aspects of his debut season in The Premiership.

"Frustration is not the word to describe how I am feeling," said Berson.

"I am learning a lot this season - about life and about football.

"I still need to improve things in my game and to get even fitter for English football but I think since I came here I have improved as a footballer.

"I have had to work on my fitness. Even now it is not perfect but it is better. I have also got to work on being more powerful.

"From a personal point of view I want to play as many games as I can between now and the end of the season.

"I don't know how many it will be but I will try to work hard and train well."
