Thomas Hitzlsperger's future will be determined by first team football.
Thomas Hitzlsperger has admitted that his decision about whether he stays at Aston Villa will be determined by his presence in the first team.After starting just 11 games this season the German midfielder is desperate to attain a regular place in a bid to secure a World Cup berth in 2006, and is more than prepared to leave Villa Park if necessary.
Hitzlsperger revealed that whilst he is keen to continue his Premiership career under manager David O'Leary, he will not tolerate compromising his standing in the view of Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann.
"Will I be playing here next season? I haven't made my mind up," said Hitzlsperger.
"I've enjoyed all my time here, it's been good, but your priority is obviously to play games. This season I've been in and out of the team.
"I'll have a chat with the manager and see what they want off me.
"I do want to find a club where I can get regular first-team football, if that could be achieved at Villa then I will stay.
"It is something that Jurgen Klinsmann needs to happen for a player to be involved in the World Cup."
Contract negotiations with the 22-year-old have proved difficult for O'Leary, and a raft of suitors are interested in the player who could move on a Bosman at the end of the season.
Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart have been mooted as a possible destination for the player, although he protested to be focused on improving his chances with his current employers and also denied that financial motivations play a part in his current situation.
"Of course, it is a good sign if other clubs are interested in you but it doesn't affect me at the moment," Hitzlsperger continued.
"All I'm going to do at present is try and give my best week-in and week-out, do well in training and give my best when I play.
"That's all that matters and the rest will look after itself.
"But I can say to you that I've had a good contract offer from Villa and my decision over my future does not depend on money."
