Thomas Hitzlsperger has revealed that he is determined to secure a place in Germany's squad for next year's World Cup finals.

The Aston Villa midfielder has forced his way into Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann's thinking with some polished displays in The Premiership.

Hitzlsperger admits he faces no easy task in securing a place in the Germany squad, as his lack of regular playing time for Villa is a cause of some concern, but says it is one of his top priorities.

"That is the big target for me, to get in the squad for the World Cup," he told Soccer AM.

"There are a lot of games coming up and I have only played three games for Germany so far and it is a long way to go, but I had a good start and hopefully I will be in the World Cup.

"It is a dream playing in your own country and I am looking forward to it."

Hitzlsperger believes Klinsmann has made a bright start to his tenure as Germany coach and is convinced they will be a force to be reckoned with on home territory.

"Jurgen Klinsmann has come in and has made changes and it has been good so far," added the Villa midfielder. "We are playing positive, attacking football and that is what we want.

"There has been a change and hopefully we can maintain it and keep the form for the World Cup.

"If we can maintain our standards we will have a good chance in the World Cup."
