Hamburg have confirmed they are keen on bringing Aston Villa's Thomas Hitzlsperger to Die Bundesliga.

The 22-year-old is reportedly unhappy about being rested by Villa boss David O'Leary more often than he wants too.

The former Bayern Munich Amateur player will be out of contract next summer and although Villa seem to be keen to keep the youngster, the prospect of moving to one of Germany's biggest clubs could be tempting for him.

Hamburg's director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer admitted Hitzlsperger is among their list of transfer targets.

"It would be foolish if his name wouldn't feature high on our agenda," declared Beiersdorfer.

Hitzlsperger admitted he would consider a move to Germany, but that the deal would have to be right for him.

"Everything would have to be just right - after all I would only move if I felt it would benefit my development as a player," Hitzlsperger said.

Hitzlsperger, whose rise in the Premiership had long been rather ignored in his home country, was finally rewarded for his good form when he earned his first full international in Saturday's 2-0 win in Iran.
