Wolves' proposed move to sign Aston Villa defender Rob Edwards has hit a snag after a medical revealed a minor problem in one of his ankles.

The Black Country club were keen to bring the Wales international to Molineux, with an initial fee of £125,000 having been agreed with their Midlands rivals for the 21-year-old.

Edwards arrived at Wolves to have a routine medical, but those tests have revealed a problem with a previously injured ankle that now requires further investigation.

The youngster has now been sent to see an ankle specialist for further assessment, with the transfer to remain on hold until the specialist reports back to the Championship club.

"The medical has shown up a slight problem that the boy's suffered with and it's only right that we get it properly checked out," Wolves boss Dave Jones told the club's official website.

"We've sent him off to have a proper investigation with one of the country's top specialists and then, hopefully, he will be given the all clear so we can complete the signing.

"He can be a big signing for this club and we are keen for all this to be sorted out and everything to get back on track."
