The 21-year-old full back has held talks with Villa boss David O'Leary and the outcome is that he can leave if they get a reasonable fee for him.
O'Leary has promised he will let Edwards go if the club get around £500,000 for his services, despite him having a year left on his contract.
"I have had a chat with the gaffer and been told that they will let me go for a reasonable fee," said Edwards.
"I have had three months at Derby and, previous to that, a one-month loan at Crystal Palace.
"I felt I did okay at Derby and was able to help them avoid relegation. But it does seem that I have a future at Villa."
The Rams are thought to want Edwards but they may struggle to raise the cash, while other club are also thought to be interested.
"I believe there are another couple of clubs interested, one from The Premiership and a big club in the First Division."
Edwards has played the last four international matches for Wales and needs regular football to further his chances with Mark Hughes' squad.
