Gary Bowyer could not hide his frustration after Blackburn were pegged back three times to draw 3-3 with Nottingham Forest despite a Rudy Gestede hat-trick.

The Benin striker got his first early on after a defensive mix-up, but Michail Antonio levelled soon after.

Gestede's second - a powerful header from Craig Conway's cross - came 10 minutes from the break but Henri Lansbury hit back before half-time, and, although his third and final header came late on, it was not enough as Antonio netted his second two minutes from time.

It means that although Blackburn have not lost for three games, they have failed to taste victory at Ewood Park for the fourth consecutive game and, coming hot on the heels of losing two leads against Birmingham, Bowyer was not a happy man.

He said: "To score three goals and not be talking about an impressive win, you have to understand my frustration and disappointment, especially having gone through similar on Tuesday night.

"If I was Rudy Gestede, I'd be absolutely fuming with my team-mates because I've scored a hat-trick and we aren't talking about how that hat-trick won us the game.

"To score late on and be 3-2 up, it's a case of seeing the game out. That's when you need people to stand up there and see the game out."

A Rudy Gestede hat-trick was not enough to give Blackburn three points as Nottingham Forest fought back three times to earn a 3-3 draw

After losing the lead five times in their last two games, Bowyer was asked if he lacks the players to manage certain spells of games effectively and the manager admitted that the recruitment over the summer will look to address that issue.

"It's something we've certainly looked at in the last couple of weeks," he said.

"Obviously the embargo we're under limits that but that's something in the last couple of weeks we've identified our recruitment department to target somebody or some players of that ilk because that is apparent it's what needs to happen in the summer."

Forest are winless in six in the league, as well as their last five on the road, but manager Dougie Freedman was delighted with what he described as the best performance of his reign.

He said: "We've got commitment and spirit. Our approach play was fantastic - the best we've played since I've been here. We just need to get better in both boxes. I think defensively, we couldn't cope with Gestede but also in their box, we've had five or six great chances to win this game of football.

"We were too hot to handle today. The spirit is there, the quality is there - we just need to make sure we're better in both boxes.

"Our play today, you've seen it was fantastic. We controlled the game possession-wise. These so-called experts and the way they talk about possession doesn't interest me. I only rely on chances because if we're creating chances, we'll win games.

"It was a great advertisement for the Championship. I just have to get some more ingredients in that pot to make sure in both boxes, we're better."

Freedman also commented about the importance of Antonio who, despite Gestede's hat-trick, was the game's outstanding performer with a brace that took his tally to 15 for the season, and an assist in an all-action display.

The Forest boss hopes that whatever valuation the club have for Antonio, it is not met in the summer.

"Every player has a price on their head and I'm hoping he doesn't reach the value because he's a massive part of what I'm trying to do," he said.
