Sky Bet Championship: Brentford boss Mark Warburton hails Andre Gray after win over Blackburn

Andre Gray is being tipped to reach the top by Brentford manager Mark Warburton after 3-1 win over Blackburn.

Striker Gray, plucked from Luton by the newly-promoted Bees in the summer, grabbed his ninth goal of the season to help sink fellow promotion hopefuls Blackburn 3-1.

His performances have caught the eye of teams in the Premier League - QPR boss Harry Redknapp was in the crowd at Griffin Park - but Warburton has no concerns about fending off the top-flight vultures in January.

"He loves scoring goals and that is a big part of the character of a centre-forward," said Warburton.

"He genuinely enjoys it. He was a handful, he gave their two centre-halves a torrid afternoon.

"But it's the same old story. I hope every player attracts attention, but the fact is that any player who leaves here leaves on our terms.

"Everyone has a price. The owner will decide the price. That's life, and we would replace him.

"But right now this is a good place. I think anyone would think long and hard before leaving here.

Brentford consolidated their place in the Championship play-off places with a 3-1 victory over Blackburn

"I have no doubts he could go to the higher level - hopefully with us."

Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas opened the scoring against the club where he started his career, sticking out a foot to divert in Jake Bidwell's cross-shot.

Rudy Gestede levelled in first-half stoppage time with a volley which took a deflection, but Gray fired Brentford back in front with a top-class finish.

The 23-year-old controlled Jota's pass on his chest, spun away from his marker and tucked his shot across Jason Steele and into the net.

Rovers could have equalised again but Ben Marshall's shot hit the post, before Jota charged up the other end to wrap up the points for the hosts.

"Obviously it's a major disappointment, we came here to try to win the game," said Rovers boss Gary Bowyer.

"We got ourselves back in it before half-time, we started the second half well, but the manner of the goals have been soft again from our point of view.

"But we didn't stop and when we hit the post at 2-1 it was a huge moment in the game.

"Brentford have done well, they have come up and have been active in the market. I think they spent close to #1million for Gray so he must have some ability, and he showed that with his goal.

"Brentford are a club on the rise who are spending well in the market. I'm jealous!"
