The 18-year-old, who can play in midfield or attack, spent time with Sunderland and Newcastle as a youngster before being released.
He has now been handed his chance in the professional game by Rovers after he impressed on trial.
"I'd like to thank the whole club - they gave me an opportunity and have supported me and allowed me to go down to Blackburn and I really appreciate it," he told Ashington's website.
"I initially went for a two-day trial during the February half-term holidays and they asked me back for a week.
"I was down from Monday to Friday and played in midfield in a 4-3-3 system in a behind-closed-doors friendly for their under-21s side.
"On Wednesday they called me in to see if I was interested in a contract - and I jumped at the chance."
He admits he is delighted to be getting his chance again after failing to make the grade at Sunderland or Newcastle.
"I was devastated when released at both clubs," he said.
"More so at Sunderland because at 16 you can be offered a full-time contract.
"As a young boy everyone wants to be a pro footballer, and I was hoping that after missing out at Newcastle and Sunderland that I would get a break, so this is a dream come true."
