Midfielder targets promotion and refuses to give up Liverpool dream

Jay Spearing is setting his sights on helping Bolton Wanderers make an immediate return to the Premier League and is refusing to give up on his Liverpool career. The midfielder has joined Owen Coyle's Championship club on a season-long loan after being told by Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers he was not likely to play on a regular basis. And Spearing on Saturday made his Bolton debut in the defeat by Hull City but he remains optimistic about the outlook for the coming season and is targeting promotion. The 23-year-old is also not looking beyond the end of the campaign, when he hopes to return to Liverpool despite reports his exit from the Merseyside club could become permanent. Spearing told the Bolton News: "I don't see why I can't have a career at Liverpool. But I am at Bolton now and I want to produce some good games to get us up into the Premier League. "I am here for the whole season and I think we will be up there fighting.

Opportunities

"I am ready to play for Bolton and I am going to put in 100 per cent every game and try to get as high up the league as possible." Spearing added: "At this stage of my career, I do need regular football and that's one of the big meetings I had with Brendan. "If I want to push on with my career, I need to play more regularly. "He sat me down and we had a really good chat. We both told each other the truths of how we thought the season was going to go. "So, we decided it would be a good experience for me to come out and play some football. I had a few opportunities to go elsewhere but it's not about that now. "The manager, the chairman and the players all wanted me to come to Bolton. They have made me feel welcome and that I am part of the team already. "Bolton is a massive club with massive support and I think we can do it and achieve promotion."
