On-loan midfielder hopes to help Bolton bounce back

Jay Spearing has revealed that a chat with former Liverpool team-mate David Ngog helped persuade him to make his loan move to Bolton. The 23-year-old has completed a season-long deal at the Reebok Stadium where he will reunite with Ngog, who left Anfield 12 months ago. That, and how other young players have progressed under Owen Coyle at Bolton, helped Spearing make up his mind. "I know quite a few of the lads here. Obviously David from when he was with me at Liverpool and also Chris Eagles from playing against him when he was involved with the Manchester United youth and reserve teams," said Spearing. "I spoke to David a few times on the phone and he had nothing but great things to say about the club. "I think it's a great move for myself. I've seen the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Jack Wilshere come here and they've gone on to great things."

Passion

Coyle's approach also helped convince Spearing that gaining experience away from Liverpool for now was the right decision. "It's an ideal move for me," he added. "I think it was time for me to come and get games and I think Bolton's style will suit me. I've had a few chats with the manager and he really made me feel wanted - his passion for the football club really came across. "With the manager and the players we've got here we can certainly fight for promotion back to the Premier League."
