Tigers starlet hoping boss will be handed permanent contract

Tom Cairney is pleased to hear that Nick Barmby is close to being appointed Hull City's boss on a permanent basis, with a deal believed to be imminent. Barmby, who inherited the reins when Nigel Pearson headed for a second spell at Leicester City in November, revealed on Saturday that he was close to being named the club's full-time boss. He has been working in a caretaker role so far, with the Tigers having turned to him in their hour of need. Barmby has made no secret of his desire to take charge of his hometown club, with his enthusiasm marking him out as a leading candidate for the role. He has helped to keep Hull in the promotion mix in the Championship, suggesting he is destined to have a successful coaching career.

Inspirational

Those inside the KC Stadium camp have been impressed with his work, and the players are all keen for him to stay and offer stability in the dugout. Cairney, a product of the club's academy system, said: "Every player in the squad wants the gaffer permanently. "He's an inspirational figure. He's been there and done the lot and I know the fans love him. "He can take us back into the Premier League."
