Groin injury to sideline defender for six weeks

Struggling Blackburn Rovers will be without Scott Dann for the next six weeks, with the defender nursing a groin complaint. The summer signing from Birmingham City was among the goals on Saturday, but was unable to prevent Rovers slipping to a 2-1 defeat by West Brom. That setback left the club languishing inside the Premier League drop zone and heightened calls for Steve Kean to be relieved of his managerial duties at Ewood Park. Kean has vowed to battle on, but he could have done without suffering an untimely knock to one of his key men. Dann will play no part for Blackburn over the busy festive and New Year period, with the 24-year-old set to be missing until the end of January.

Surgery

Kean is disappointed to have seen his defensive options further depleted and admits Dann will be forced under the knife in the near future. "We have suffered another blow because Scott Dann is out for six weeks," he said. "He will have groin surgery. "When you add that to Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen and Michel Salgado, we are losing defenders at the moment, which is tough. "But we have to face it up and crack on, although that is a tough one to take."
