David Dunn is hoping to be back in action by Christmas after undergoing Achilles surgery.
The Blackburn midfielder has not played since the draw with Hull on 23rd August and was sent for an operation last month.
Dunn, who has been plagued by a series of niggles in recent years, had started the season in fine form.
He admits it was frustrating to pick up the problem but is optimistic that he could return sooner than expected.
There were initially fears that Dunn could be sidelined until January but he is happy with the progress he has made.
"Before Christmas, that is what my target is," Dunn told Sky Sports News.
"If I could get back sometime about then I'll be pretty happy.
"It was a frustrating time, having the good start that we did. And on personal level I thought my performance was as good as it has been for a few years.
"I felt really good and I was really confident but unfortunately this came around.
"It wouldn't have got better so I got the op done and hopefully I'll be back playing soon."
